DESCRIPTION:\n\n\nThe 2021 JENNIFER2 Summer School will introduce undergr
aduate and beginning-graduate physics students to particle-physics researc
h performed at the KEK laboratory in Japan\, focusing on the research o
f the Belle II and T2K collaborations. The school will take place on 1
 9-27 July\, 2021\, via remote participation.\n\nThe school lectures will f
ocus on theoretical and experimental heavy-flavour and neutrino physics\,
accelerator and detector physics\, and statistics and machine learning. H
ands-on (remote) activities will include analysis of electron-positro
n collision data collected by the Belle II experiment\, as well as constru
ction of a drift-chamber particle detector and analysis of its performance
. Students will also participate in virtual tours of experimental faciliti
es at KEK. Activities will take place approximately from 8:30 to 15:00 in
the central European timezone.\n\nSome of the students will also be able t
o participate in a more in-depth mentorship experience during the weeks or
months after the school. The mentorship will involve a research or develo
pment project under the guidance of an experienced physicist from Belle II
or T2K. The details of the mentorship\, including dates\, topics\, and
scope\, will be jointly decided by the mentor and student in each case.\n\
nThe School is intended for physics students from any country. By the
start of the School\, applicants must have completed at least 3 and not mo
re than 4.5 years of full-time studies at the university level. Generally\
, participants will be around the end of their B.Sc.\, with some country-d
ependent variation. Participating undergraduate students are expected to c
ontinue to a graduate physics program. Good knowledge of English is requir
ed. \n\nThe School is organized by JENNIFER2 (Japan and Europe Network
for Neutrino and Intensity Frontier Experimental Research 2)\, a Europea
n Union Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie Sk
odowska-Curie grant agreement No. 822070\, and by KEK. No fee is charged f
or participation in the school.\n\nFor inquiries\, please email us at jen
nifer2-school@ml.post.kek.jp.\n\nTo apply for participation in the school\
, please go the Application page. Applications will close during the day
 of May 31.\n\nhttps://indico.belle2.org/event/4071/
